This PC update goes all out to improve it in pretty much every way it’s slick, smooth, spectacular and feels great. The mobile version was probably the best schmup on the platform (IMO) and had a smart progression system. Its origins are from a mobile game, but you’d be crazy to let that put you off. I enjoy a good western-style retro shoot-em-ups, and Sky Force Reloaded is right up there. SFR is tuned to offer a steady stream of drops & unlocks as you play, & with there being much more content there is always something new to engage with. Unfortunately for the ship parts there is no radar so these end up taking a bit longer to collect. In SFR, this has been minimised considerably by offering a Card Radar feature where you can spend stars on pinpointing a card level location. One of the frustration points for me in SFA was the randomness of the card drops, which left me chasing those last few cards for many hours. & generally find a few more ‘tricky’ sections within the standard level flows especially while you are still maxing out your stats. In most respects its fair to say SFR has upped the ante! Bosses are more challenging EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: IRON RAIN Where I found SFA perfectly balanced for my skill level, I have found SFR to be a notch too tough at times. At the core SFR feels like it plays almost identical to SFA, which is not a bad thing considering how well refined the mechanics were. Most of the enemies from SFA return (including my nemesis the pesky fast-shot railgun! as does the precise controls & scalable difficulty that worked so well in SFA. Along with SFR having half a dozen more levels & an additional Nightmare difficulty tier, there is a range of new ships to unlock, technicians offering various power-ups & new enemies to challenge you. pure sequel which encapsulates the great gameplayįeatures from Sky Force Anniversary (SFA), & expands or improves on them. The mission structure, graphics, music are all basically the same again, so its nice to be able to jump in to familiar territory. All of these are welcome additions to make the game a little more accessible to play and not have to rely on blind playing to randomly get that card you’ve been searching hours for like in the first game. And every time you earn something, a red exclamation point will hover over the back button letting you know to return to the main menu and see what you got.
